East Tyrol on a Rainy Day: An Excursion to 2,421 Metres

Bergpanorama mit Wolken bei der Adler Lounge in Osttirol

It is raining in East Tyrol – what can you do? When the summer lifts are operating, the Adler Lounge is an easily accessible destination. The enclosed gondola takes you from Kals to 2,421 metres and directly to the restaurant without a hike.

A Rainy-Day Excursion Without Hiking

On rainy days, many guests would still like to experience the mountains of East Tyrol without spending a long time outdoors. The gondola takes you directly to the Adler Lounge. At the top, a spacious interior, the cosy Swiss pine room and large glass façades offer views into the mountain landscape.

  • no hike and no wet approach required
  • gondola ride from Kals
  • restaurant and Swiss pine room indoors
  • accessible journey all the way to the Adler Lounge
  • high-quality cuisine at 2,421 metres

What Is the View Like in the Rain?

Weather conditions in the valley and at 2,421 metres can differ. At times, breaks in the clouds reveal the Grossglockner, Grossvenediger and other peaks. In dense fog or prolonged rain, however, the view may be limited. We say this openly: a particular panorama cannot be guaranteed in mountain weather.

A Culinary Experience Instead of a Bad-Weather Programme

Even when the mountains temporarily disappear behind the clouds, the gondola ride to 2,421 metres remains a special experience. At the Adler Lounge, Tyrolean classics, Mediterranean dishes and specialities from the Isel Valley meet modern architecture and the atmosphere of an exceptional mountain restaurant.

In the 2025 Falstaff Mountain Hut Guide, the cuisine, ambience and service received a total of 95 points overall.

Who Is This Excursion Suitable For?

The excursion is suitable for families, senior visitors, food lovers and anyone who cannot or does not wish to hike. Wheelchair users can also reach the Adler Lounge via the accessible gondola route; the gondola entrance is 80 cm wide.

Check Before Travelling Up

Mountain lifts may restrict operations during strong winds, thunderstorms or other adverse conditions. Please check the current lift status and the Adler Lounge opening hours before setting off.
